I have been always interested in architecture, but somehow never managed to study it. However, I once told myself that I will study architecture at some stage in my life – even if that happens at the age of 70 (if I am still alive that is :D), God willing.

I have decided to start doing something about my this interest/aim and have been searching architecture related books that I could read and improve my understanding of architecture therewith.

TheCoolist have come up with a list of 10 must-read architecture books for the amateur archophile and I have selected few that I’d like to read. I have also included some other books that are not to be found on TheCoolist’s 10 must-read architecture books.

The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand – I bought this book years back and even started reading it, but only managed to read few pages as the amount of reading I had to do for university back then kept me busy most of the time. This book is still in my shelf and it’s high time I should read it.

Books I have been able to find online:

Analysing Architecture by Simon Unwin – This book seems to be a good introduction into architecture and its technique. Really looking forward to reading this one.

The Phaidon Atlas of 21st Century World Architecture by Phaidon Press.

The Poetics of Space by Gaston Bachelard – This book is supposed to be one of the most inspiring works of architectural philosophy.

Vitruvius: The Ten Books on Architecture by Vitruvius – This collection of books serves as a good guide on how habitats should be constructed.

Books I need to get from the library:

A World History of Architecture by Michael Fazio, Marian Moffett, and Lawrence Wodehouse (2008) – Zentralbibliothek: HQ 1942, Freihand 02

Architecture in the twentieth century by Peter Gössel & Gabriele Leuthäuser – ETHZ Library (646 | 33384: ed.2005 Band 1) has it in German, so I shall try to get hold of it.

Minimum Paperback by John Pawson – ETHZ: 23 | 28455: ed.2002 (2002 instead of 2006 version)

Modern Architecture by Alan Colquhoun (2002) – ETHZ: 646 | 37325

Modern Architecture: A Critical History by Kenneth Frampton (1992 and 2007) – ETHZ: 646 | 8263: ed.4

Sustainable Design: Ecology, Architecture, and Planning Hardcover by Daniel E. Williams (2007) – ETHZ: T 13918 (Magazine)

I still need to look into:
